Minister congratulates Portland Spencer Academy
Pupils at Portland Spencer Academy are celebrating after receiving a letter from Schools Minister Nick Gibb MP. The letter congratulated them on results which place their school performance amongst the very best in the country.
As Minister for School Standards, Nick Gibb MP is responsible for monitoring performance in schools.
Results for the 2016-17 academic year have now been analysed, and Portland Spencer has been identified as amongst the top 2% of schools for progress in reading, writing and mathematics.
Successes build on the school's ASPIRE pact, which encourages exciting learning and a culture of high expectations.
Mr Gibb offered his congratulations to the Principal of Portland Spencer Academy, Kate Green, in a letter received this week.
He said: "I would like to congratulate you, your staff and your pupils on the very high level of progress that pupils in your school have made."
Challenge Partners 2017
Challenge Partners Quality Assurance Review November 2017 found many positive indicators and for the second year in a row, judged the school to be outstanding in all areas. As a school, we have continued to make excellent progress since the last report and are proud of our achievements.
Deepening the understanding of children's learning through a mastery approach in Mathematics was confirmed as an Area of Excellent Practice.
The use of resources and effective questioning to help pupils master all areas of mathematics was observed as strengths across the school. This was evident through discussions with staff, senior leaders and pupils and supported by evidence in classrooms. The high quality teaching of mathematics was also highly commended in our most recent Ofsted report, January 2017.
