Vision & Values

At Portland Spencer we work together to enable pupils to achieve academically; to reach their full potential, and to become responsible and thoughtful citizens.

Our school ethos is expressed in the ‘Portland Pact’ and our ASPIRE values.

We…

  • Achieve greatness through independent learning.
  • Succeed together.
  • The possibilities are endless.
  • We improve through reflection and learning from mistakes.
  • We are responsible for our choices; and:
  • Everyone is important.

The Portland Pact

A

Achieve greatness through independent learning

We want all of our children to experience success. We ensure that we promote an environment of mutual respect and encourage all of our children to become confident and independent learners where they value their own and others learning and achievements.

S

Succeed together

Team work is essential in many of our school and life’s achievements. We want all of our pupils to strive to work well with others, encouraging and supporting in everything we do. By doing this we ensure that the whole team understands and achieves shared goals.

P

Possibilities are endless

Learning begins with the confidence that you can! We ensure that every child at Portland sees the bigger picture and believe that they have the ability to learn and the self assurance to solve problems and overcome difficulties. We encourage all our pupils to understand that with hard work, perseverance we build resilience and in turn the possibilities really are endless.

I

Improve through reflection and learning from mistakes

We believe that new learning takes place when challenges are presented. We tackle these positively and recognise that making a mistake is part of the learning process. We aim to challenge each individual and support them in their own learning journey.

R

Responsible for our choices

As part of understanding all of the individuals within the school community we encourage thinking about the choices we make and the impact on those around us. Through this our children develop compassion for others as well as an empathy for the wide ranging views we have at Portland.

E

Everyone is important

As part of understanding all of the individuals within the school community we encourage thinking about the choices we make and the impact on those around us. Through this our children develop compassion for others as well as an empathy for the wide ranging views we have at Portland.
